Math Club Starts Up

The Western Academy Math Club for the 2022-23 school year is meeting on Fridays at 7:30 AM!

The Western Academy Math Club is an opportunity for students who have some interest in mathematics and problem solving

  1. to develop a deeper love for math,

  2. to become better math problem solvers, and

  3. to face off against other students (from Western and from other Texas schools) in math competitions.

To this end, we will typically spend a short segment of each meeting discussing a math concept or problem-solving technique and the rest of the time studying the concept or practicing the technique through a game/competition or other activity.

The Math Club is open to Western Academy students of any grade level. As in years past, we will meet in the Science Room, where the after-school study hall takes place (the room in the red brick building with a big window looking out on the basketball court).

Competitions

Throughout the year, there are a number of math competitions in which Green Jay mathletes will have the opportunity to compete against students from other schools in the Houston area and statewide. We will train for these competitions at club meetings.

Math Club Breakfast Snacks

For the past several years we have had the tradition of having breakfast snacks at the math club meetings. Parents can sign up here to bring breakfast snacks to a specific math club meeting.

This is the seventh year of the club. I am very open to suggestions and feedback from parents about how to make the Math Club a huge success!
